Inspiration—200 Days until Dopey Challenge

Week Two of the Galloway Training Plan includes three runs: Tuesday—45 minutes, Thursday—45 minutes, and Saturday—3 miles. When it says this, you can use whatever run/walk intervals you want during the time or distance.

I’m writing the blog on the days I run/walk. Yesterday, though, I knew I wasn’t going to be able to run because of my work schedule, so I put off my 45-minute run until today, and I will do the three miles on Sunday (on Saturdays, I go to Zumba). Today, though, I had a lot of work to do, so I couldn’t get outside until after 7 p.m. In some ways, of course, that worked out for me, as it was no longer sunny and it was only 89 degrees.

Also, and most importantly, during my work day, I watched the Track & Field Olympic Trials. I have always loved track & field. One of the few sports with no violence.

Plus, I love all of the amazing individual stories. For example, in 2008, Samia Yusuf Omar, a young Somali girl who had never had new sneakers, made it to Beijing. She had to go back to Somalia after the Olympics and she died in the Mediterranean, likely having been raped in a Libyan camp trying to escape war. I’ve taught her biography to college students.

Samia had never been away from home. She had to train at night because it was illegal for her to be out alone. She didn’t have the right shoes or any proper clothes; nor did she have money to buy food when she got to China. Truly a tragic story.

Today, I loved watching Shamier Little.

She said the greatest thing about trying both the 400 and the 400 hurdles because “it’s fun.”

And, of course, our hometown girl.

Love so much.

I am an exceedingly slow runner, but fast runners inspire me. Tonight, I listened to a yé-yé playlist while I ran.

Try it.

Then, I switched to a runDisney playlist and it completely energized my last 100 meters.

Try this, too.
