Back in Paris

Paris. Fashion. History. With those three words, I clicked my heels and flew away from home. Because of some of the events on my itinerary and the amount of time I have to just write and walk, I feel like I’m going to live in Paris for ten days.

Today was very hot and humid in Paris, and when I tried to take a walk, I ended up under an awing watching the rain come down over the Palais Garnier (the Opera House; which we are touring this week).

When it stopped, I found a brasserie and had a salade de mer and a cappucino glacé. So life got better.

Now I’m actually going out to dinner with someone on my tour because she hasn’t eaten yet and I’m trying not to be someone who spends a Parisian Saturday night in her hotel room. I mean, that is who I am, but I’m trying to be someone else…someone fun and adventurous who has a drink and doesn’t get into bed at nine so she can read The New York Review of Books.

The tour doesn’t begin until Monday evening, so tomorrow I’m finally visiting the Fondation Vuitton. I won’t enter except to visit the gift shop because I love gift shops. I’m going because I want to see the Frank Gehry architecture. The musée is in the Bois de Boulogne, a park I haven’t yet visited. To get there, I will walk through Parc Monceau.

Le Parc Monceau.

Monday morning, I am interviewing a cyclist for Bicycling. Then, I’ll spend the afternoon in the Louvre. In the evening, our tour group meets each other and gets ready for our week.

Bon soir for now.
